What's happened to the Philips quality?
Being a home industry baker, I've gone through several hand mixers and I usually choose Philips because it's a brand I've grown up with and have always trusted. I accept that the mixers I buy don't last as long as with normal domestic use, as I do higher volumes. However, when I bought my last mixer (the product above), I was shocked to note how cheap and flimsy the machine appeared to be. Everything looked and felt different to the quality I'm accustomed to with the brand. I don't have any confidence in the mixer while in use and I'm constantly expecting it to break. The most infuriating 'feature' is the rigid cord which, because of its lack of flexibility and the resulting permanent kinks, loops itself into my mixing bowl all the time. I literally have to wrap the cord around the outside of the bowl to try and prevent a mess. I'm so, so disappointed that my most trusted brand has now settled for the same rubbish quality I see in other cheap brands. Passing lightweight and cheap off as "ergonomic" is disingenuous.
Pros
The slowest speed, which is useful, and the turbo feature which is ok
Cons
The rigid cord, the top speed which is not particularly fast, cheap quality, laboured operating with thicker cake batters
